We presented a Super Bowl Cocktail Party and Sponsor Appreciation event from the beautiful Marriott Hotel in Long Beach on Friday, February 11, 2022.
According to ESP leader Everett Glenn, “the Super Bowl presented a great opportunity for us to celebrate our amazing 2021 accomplishments, a few of the sponsors whose support made it possible for us to impact upwards of 200 Southern CA boys of color, and to celebrate the 40-year relationship between our founder, Everett Glenn, and Super Bowl XX starts Richard Dent, Willie Gault and Ken Taylor.
In addition to a “who’s who” of folk, including Long Beach Vice Mayor and mayoral candidate Rex Richardson, CA oil czar Uduak Ntuk, former School Board President Felton Williams, former Rams’ great Harold Jackson, former Jets great Chris Ward, a host of other current and former pro athletes, Thomas Murphy of the Orange County Youth Sports Foundation, representatives from AEG, AT&T and Turner Construction, BOSS Ambassador Clark Phillips joined us. Clark is a 5-year BOSS veteran and a 2x All-Pac-12 selection at Utah where he’s a junior academically.
We also took the time to highlight the 8 to 80 Legends Zone we have been selected to develop on the Long Beach Stat campus. The Zone will be outfitted with top-of-the-line gaming rigs, consoles, broadcasting equipment, all peripheral equipment and streaming gear to deliver mass-media, audio engineering and sound mixing programming to our boys to train on and gain skills to pursue careers in tech, Esports, gaming and media. The Zone will also include a permanent home for BOSS and provide an amazing and unique tool to address the lack of significant numbers of BIPOC students pursuing careers in STEM disciplines, and the reluctance of boys of color, in particular, to pursue STEM careers resulting from a lack of preparation, confidence, resources, and supports.
Our MVP Sponsor is the Super Bowl Champion Los Angeles Rams. Our All-Pro sponsors include All Ways Up Foundation, AT&T, the Miller Foundation, and the Munzer Foundation. Bella Canvas/Alo is our Rookie-of-the-Year sponsor.
All is all, a great time was had by all.
