On Saturday, May 16, 2015, we staged our 2nd Annual D-1 Reception in the Ruffin Boardroom at the Long Beach Airport Marriott for area student-athletes who earned a Division 1 scholarship in football.  Headlined by USC signee Kevin Scott (Salesian) and Holy Cross signee Chase Moore (Verbum Dei), the purpose of the reception was two-fold.  First, we wanted to recognize and congratulate the student-athletes (and parents) for being among the 6% of high school athletes who earn a Division 1 scholarship.  Because we know that what got the youngsters to this point in their lives will not produce the same level of success at the next level, we also wanted to share the BOSS support (mentoring, opportunities for advocacy, real life experiences and intern opportunities) we will provide the youngsters and their parents as a way to bridge the gap going forward.

A special shout out goes to one of the newest BOSS athletes, Kevin Scott.  Talk about time management.  Kevin’s day started with a workout at Salesian in Los Angeles in the morning.  He then made his way to Long Beach to participate in the BOSS reception from 2-4.  By 6pm, Kevin had made his way to Corona, CA where he escorted Taylor Pierce to the Foothill High prom.

For BOSS student-athletes, success is the only option.
